International Multigenre Festival-Competition “Kaleidoscope of Scheherazade”

ORGANIZERS:

International Organizing Committee for the Creative Development of Children and Youth “Alliance of Talents” Bulgaria, International Organizing Committee “World Music in Kazakhstan”, tour operator “Eurotour”, NOU “Genesis Education”.

As part of the festival-competition “Kaleidoscope of Scheherazade,” two professional competitions are held:

  1. Pianists’ competition “Singing Grand Piano” from April 24 to 28, 2025
  2. Stringed Instruments competition “String Round Dance” from April 24 to 28, 2025

Applications for May are accepted until April 1, 2025.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE FESTIVAL-COMPETITION:

  • Promotion and popularization of the ideas of humanism and generational continuity through comprehensive creative development of the individual;
  • Popularization of the ideas of patriotism, strengthening moral and civic values within the framework of the festival movement;
  • Preservation and development of national cultures, strengthening international ties and cooperation;
  • Creating an environment and conditions for creative communication among youth;
  • Cultivating artistic taste and introducing young performers to the best examples of world culture and art;
  • Identifying talented youth and promoting their creative growth;
  • Enhancing the professional level of creative groups and performers participating in the festival;
  • Exchange of experience and creative achievements among festival participants;
  • Creating conditions for creative communication and talent identification;
  • Attracting leading cultural specialists and artists to collaborate with creative groups;
  • Establishing creative contacts between group leaders;
  • Improving the professional skills and qualifications of creative group leaders;
  • Creating an atmosphere of a creative celebration.

PARTICIPATION:

Soloists, ensembles of all genres and directions, creative groups, representatives of visual and decorative-applied arts, as well as any children’s, youth, student, and adult theater and circus groups from different countries are invited to participate. There are no age restrictions for participants. Teachers of soloists and groups are also allowed to participate in the festival-competition, but with a separate application marked “professional”.

NOMINATIONS:

  • Instrumental creativity (classical, pop, folk, jazz, solo on various instruments, ensembles, piano ensembles (performance on two pianos is allowed), orchestras, compulsory/general piano, percussion instruments);
  • Vocal creativity (classical, folk, folklore, pop, jazz, choral, show groups (solo, duets, trios, ensembles, choirs);
  • Dance creativity (folk dance, pop dance, classical dance, modern, jazz-modern, free plastic, breakdance, children’s dance, sports ballroom dances (solo and ensembles) and other directions;
  • Decorative-applied and visual creativity;
  • Fashion theater (fashion theaters and young designers);
  • Original genre (artistic reading, circus art, and others);
  • Theatrical creativity (miniatures, excerpts from performances, puppet theater, plastic theaters, dance theaters, and others);
  • Host of game programs for children and youth;
  • Host-MC;
  • Other nominations (according to accepted applications).

SEPARATE NOMINATION: CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES (limited number of places)

Jury of the Competition: International Jury.

The competition is conducted in the form of auditions in the presence of the jury and the audience. The performances of the groups are evaluated by a professional jury. Any violation of the competition regulations will result in a loss of points when evaluating the participant’s performance. The jury’s decisions are final and not subject to appeal. The organizing committee cannot influence the scoring by the jury members or the awarding of titles to participants.

Competition Awards:

The results of the competition and the awards are given separately by nominations, taking into account age categories, and include the awarding of the Grand Prix, as well as the titles of laureates of I, II, III degrees, festival participants, special diplomas, and more. The number of prize diplomas is not limited and depends solely on the level of the program presented by the contestants. For the winners of the main prize of the competition, the Grand Prix, cash prizes or memorable gifts are provided. For laureates in the “Professional” category, cash prizes are not provided (we hope for understanding, the prize fund is distributed among the children). There is a special award from the ORGANIZING COMMITTEE, independent of the jury’s opinion. The winners of the HOSTING COMPETITION will be invited to further events of the LLP “Organizing Committee of International Competitions and Festivals “World Music in Kazakhstan” and the Bulgarian Organizing Committee “Alliance of Talents”. The jury has the right to divide the places among the participants. Accordingly, the awards are also divided. The organizing committee has the right to add nominations, combine and divide categories, in accordance with the submitted applications.

Organizational and Technical Requirements for the Competition Program:

  • Instrumental, Vocal, and Dance Groups: Each group presents one performance in one nomination, with a total duration of no more than 6 minutes.
  • Small Forms Category (Solo, Duet, Trio, Quartet, Quintet, Sextet): Each performer presents one performance with a total duration of no more than 5 minutes (it is possible to perform one large-form piece or three miniatures).
  • Theatrical Groups: Present one performance with a duration of no more than 10 minutes. The competition performance can be in any language.
  • Artistic Word Category (Small Forms): Performers present one piece (e.g., poem and prose) with a total duration of no more than 3 minutes.
  • Fashion Theaters: Can present one collection show with a total duration of no more than 10 minutes.
  • Decorative and Applied Arts Category: The festival program evaluates individual works in a quantity of no more than one piece. The technique is free in any execution technique. Works are accepted in a mat from drawing paper, and it is mandatory to indicate the author’s full name, age, teacher’s surname, and city. The work must be brought ready and defended before the jury by reproducing a fragment (at least ¼ of the original work).
  • Participants Performing with a Soundtrack: The recording must be sent by email no later than 14 days before the event. Mandatory Requirement: Each audio recording must be a separate file, with the file name as follows: track title, group, and city, e.g., “Romance,” Iskorka, Tyumen. There should be no other files on the USB Flash Card except the competition program. Each group must have a backup recording on a USB Flash Card.
  • Vocal Category: Competition pieces are performed only with a “minus” soundtrack (a backing vocal is allowed only in the chorus). Vocalists are not allowed to perform in the competition program with a “plus” soundtrack.
  • Hosting Competition: Participants provide one of the following:
    • A speech on stage – a short speech on the festival-competition theme (duration – 1-2 minutes);
    • Conferencing: announcing the numbers of the competition program of the multi-genre festival-competition “Kaleidoscope of Scheherazade”;
    • A brief story-presentation about an outstanding person (poet, composer, etc.);
    • An entertainment program indoors during the animation event (games, contests, and riddles for children, youth, and mixed audiences. No more than 10 minutes).

Category “Children with Disabilities”: Participants present one performance of their choice in their genre.

The preparation and conduct of the festival-competition are carried out by the Organizing Committee. The order of performances is determined by the Organizing Committee in advance, and performances are conducted both in blocks and as individual numbers.

The Organizing Committee has the right to use and distribute (without paying fees to participants and guests of the competition) audio and video recordings, printed and other products produced during the competition events and based on their results.

Travel and delivery of decorations, props, and instruments are at the expense of the participants or can be arranged separately with the Organizing Committee by sending a technical rider.

Issues not covered by these Regulations are decided by the Organizing Committee. The Organizing Committee reserves the right to make changes to the competition regulations.

Leaders/parents of the participants, by submitting an application, automatically confirm their agreement with all points of these Regulations, as well as their consent that the participant may be involved in competition events until 24:00.

The awarding of participants will take place only at the Gala Concert. Diplomas are not issued earlier, and results are not announced. Diplomas and prizes are not sent to participants after the competition.

The Organizing Committee has the right to disqualify a participant, creative group, or leader for gross violations of the internal rules of the competition, disciplinary violations, and unethical behavior towards the Organizing Committee, jury members, and other participants of the competition.

Participants are not allowed to refuse participation in the Gala Concert.

General Criteria for Evaluating Performances:

The competition uses a competitive-qualifying principle for evaluating the competition program. Participants are evaluated in each nomination, taking into account the age category. The jury evaluates the performance through closed voting based on the following criteria:

  • Performance mastery;
  • Artistic expressiveness of the number (compositional, content, and musical unity of the artistic image);
  • Spectacle (plasticity, costume, performance culture);
  • Performance enthusiasm and originality;
  • Artistry, revelation of the artistic image, selection, and correspondence of the repertoire to the age characteristics of the performers, audience evaluation.

For residents of Uzbekistan, participation fee without accommodation:

  • Soloists: $30
  • Duets and trios: $25 per person
  • Quartets, quintets, sextets: $20 per person
  • Groups of more than 6 people: $10 per person
  • Second and subsequent nominations: 40% discount

For guests of Uzbekistan, participation fee without accommodation:

  • Soloists: $60
  • Duets and trios: $50 per person
  • Quartets, quintets, sextets: $40 per person
  • Groups of more than 6 people: $30 per person
  • Second and subsequent nominations: 40% discount

Program with accommodation:

Economy option: $250 + participation fee

Day 3:

  • Breakfast. Free day or trip to Samarkand.
  • 07:30 Departure to Samarkand. Arrival in Samarkand.
  • Meeting at the Samarkand train station. Full-day sightseeing tour in Samarkand:
  • 14:00 Lunch.
  • 14:00 Continuation of the sightseeing tour. Visit to the largest mosque in Asia, Bibi-Khanym. Architectural complex “Shakhi-Zinda Necropolis” (11th-15th centuries), Ulugh Beg Observatory.
  • Museum and ruins of the old city of Afrasiab (8th century). It is believed that Afrasiab was the ancient Sogdian capital – the famous Marakanda.
  • Dinner*. Transfer to the train station. 18:00 Departure to Tashkent by comfortable high-speed train. 22:00 Arrival in Tashkent. Hotel check-in. Rest. (Option to extend stay by 1 day for a tour to Bukhara)

Day 4:

  • Breakfast. Continuation of the tour in Tashkent, photo session in the “Tashkent Metro” with stops at several squares in Tashkent. Optional visit to the shopping row or TSUM.
  • 13:00 Lunch at a café*.
  • 16:00 Award ceremony. Gala concert and official awarding of all participants. The numbers selected for the gala concert are approved by the competition jury together with the festival organizing committee. Participation in the gala concert is mandatory.
  • 18:00 Round table for leaders.
  • 19:00 Dinner at a café.

Day 5:

  • Breakfast. Farewell at the checkpoint or airport. Option to extend the program for a visit to Bukhara.

The organizing committee reserves the right to adjust the schedule as necessary.

Not included:

  • Participation in the second nomination (40% discount, for groups the discount applies if the group agrees to receive only one diploma and one medal for all nominations. A cup and diploma for the leader for each nomination.)
  • Trip to Bukhara $120 (train, transfer, additional night, excursion, dinner. Lunch on your own)
  • Personal expenses.
  • Arrival at Bukhara or Samarkand airport is possible (in this case, the program will be recalculated).

Orphans, children under guardianship, and children with disabilities are exempt from the participation fee. The number of places is limited.

Attention!!! If the exchange rate of the dollar to the national currency changes by more than 2%, the cost will be adjusted.

VI International Pianists Competition “Singing Grand Piano” from April 24 to 28, 2025

Pianists aged 10 to 23, students of music schools, art schools, specialized schools, music colleges, and higher music education institutions are invited to participate.

  • Round 1: Polyphony and etude
  • Round 2: National piece or extended/virtuoso piece and large form (1st movement or 2nd and 3rd movements of a classical sonata or classical variations or 1st movement of a concerto).

The program must correspond to the participant’s age or be higher in complexity. The competition uses a competitive-qualification principle for evaluating the competition program. The jury evaluates on a 100-point system. Participants scoring 80 points are admitted to each subsequent round.

Competition awards: The results and awards are conducted separately by age groups and include:

  • Grand Prix award (200 points in total for 2 rounds) and an equivalent of $500.
  • Titles of laureates of I, II, III degrees, cash prizes or valuable prizes for 1st prize winners, special diplomas, and more. Participants who do not pass to the 2nd round and beyond receive participant diplomas of the “Singing Grand Piano” competition.

Financial conditions (participation fee):

  • For participants aged 10-12 and 13-15 years, the participation fee is $80.
  • For participants aged 16-19 and 20 and older, the participation fee is $100.
  • The participation fee is non-refundable in case of withdrawal from the competition.

International Competition for String Instrument Performers “String Round Dance” from April 24 to 28, 2025

The competition is held in 4 specialties: violin, viola, cello, string ensemble in six age groups.

  • Group A (solo) – up to 8 years old: Two contrasting pieces. Total playing time up to 5 minutes.
  • Group B (solo) – 9 to 12 years old: Two contrasting pieces. Total playing time up to 8 minutes.
  • Group C (solo) – 13 to 15 years old: Two contrasting pieces or a large form. One extended piece is allowed. Total playing time up to 12 minutes.
  • Group D (solo) – 16 to 18 years old: Two contrasting pieces or a large form. One extended piece is allowed. Total playing time up to 12 minutes.
  • Group E (ensemble) junior group 8 to 14 years old: Two contrasting pieces or a large form. One extended piece is allowed. Total playing time up to 8 minutes.
  • Group E+ (ensemble) senior group 15 to 23 years old: Two contrasting pieces or a large form. One extended piece is allowed. Total playing time up to 12 minutes.

Performing works by national authors is encouraged. Duets, trios, quartets, quintets, and more are allowed in the “String Ensemble” nomination.

Financial conditions:

  • Soloists: $80
  • Duet, trio: $60 per person.
  • For groups of 4-6 people, the fee is $40 per participant.
  • For groups of 7 or more people, the fee is $25 per participant.
